On October 8, 2023, many ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú students participated in the Maui Strong season finale canoe race with the sponsorship of Imua One Blade. This was the first race for ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú students and unfortunately the last of the season; however, as the year ends, there is a bright and promising future for the ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú paddling club start-up.
Many familiar faces participated from ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú, including the President and Vice President of the Student Government Association Andrea Maminta and Pyper Dado, as well as many more ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú students. The team raced a long 14 miles from Hawaiʻi Kai to Sand Island and finished strong.

In a statement from Dado, she said, “ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú has built up lots of diverse and culturally important clubs and organizations and we are hoping that an ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú paddling team can be one of those. As someone who is not from Hawaiʻi, I am glad to be a part of and learn about Hawaiian culture through classes, activities, and clubs that ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú offers and would love to have a paddling team be another way for students to participate and learn about Hawaiian culture.”
If current ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú students are interested in participating in the Imua One Blade club, contact Dado at: pdado1@my.hpu.edu.
